Isaiah 49:10 & meaning...

They shall not hunger nor thirst;

    neither shall the heat nor sun strike them:

    for he who has mercy on them will lead them.

    He will guide them by springs of water.

Isaiah 49:10

Context

Yahweh says, “In an acceptable time I have answered you,

    and in a day of salvation I have helped you.

I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people,

    to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage:

saying to those who are bound, ‘Come out!’;

    to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves!’

“They shall feed along the paths,

    and their pasture shall be on all treeless heights.

Isaiah 49 [10.] They shall not hunger nor thirst;

    neither shall the heat nor sun strike them:

    for he who has mercy on them will lead them.

    He will guide them by springs of water.

I will make all my mountains a road,

    and my highways shall be exalted.

Behold, these shall come from afar;

    and behold, these from the north and from the west;

    and these from the land of Sinim.”

Sing, heavens; and be joyful, earth;

    and break out into singing, mountains:

for Yahweh has comforted his people,

    and will have compassion on his afflicted.

Cross-References:

Psalm 23:1-3: "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake." These verses from Psalm 23 align with the themes of provision, protection, and guidance found in Isaiah 49:10.

Revelation 7:16-17: "They will never be hungry, neither thirsty any more; neither will the sun beat on them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shepherds them, and leads them to springs of life-giving waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." This passage in Revelation echoes Isaiah 49:10, pointing to the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promises in the new creation.

John 7:37-38: "Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink! He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.'" Jesus’ invitation to come to Him for living water ties directly to the promise of divine sustenance and spiritual renewal.
